Process of Manufacture

Duritec®  is the product that results when a glass undergoes a thermal process in which it is uniformly warmed to a temperature superior to the softening point, around 700 º C and then it's abruptly cooled down in its surface, which creates a superficial layer under great tension with balanced polarisation. This layer gives the glass new properties ad it becomes a product completely different from the glass, which originated it.

A very important property of Duritec®  is that it breaks in small pieces, with a minimum capability of cut, so it's highly recommended in items in which there is risk of break, such as is self-propulsion, sport facilities, street furniture, partition screens and fronts not framed, even in domestic furniture it's compulsory its instalment in some countries of the EU.

In order to manufacture the Duritec® , Tvitec is equipped with a modern horizontal furnace with capability to temper pieces up to 12000x3210 mm in the highest thickness, achieving an excellent degree of planimetry either in the vane or in the bumpy texture of of the surface.

The characteristics of the Duritec®  are:

  • Higher resistance to the thermal shock
  • Higher mechanic resistance to compression
  • Higher mechanic resistance to flexion
  • Higher mechanic resistance to torsion
  • Higher mechanic resistance to impact


Physical properties and Heat Sock Test

The optical properties, acoustic properties and properties of thermal transmission of Duritec®  don't vary if we compare them with the original glass. On the contrary, the mechanic properties and the resistance of thermal shock do.

The values of these mechanic properties for Duritec®  are the following:
·         Break tension-working Traction-Flexion between 1,300 and 1,900 Kp/cm2
·         Resistance to compression about 10,000 Kp/cm2
·         Resistance to impact measured by test, dropping a steel ball from a variable height, depending on the thickness of the tempered glass and the Protocol Essay used.

The Resistance to thermal shock of Tempering is about 250 º C.
The Heat Soak Test

The glass may have sulphur of nickel occlusions, which when warming over certain temperatures not too high, vibrate, which creates tension in the tempered glasses and provokes their collapse. This phenomenon is especially serious in curtain wall, facades, because the cost of replacement of a piece is very high.

To avoid there phenomenon, the best is that the pieces undergo a process in which they suffer extremely have sulphur of nickel occlusions collapse during the text. This test is called Heat Soak Test, and to do it, Cristalglass is equipped with an equipment which combines reliability and short time of execution.

Summing up, the test consist on introducing the pieces in chamber prepared to rise gradually for 5 hours the air temperature until it reaches almost 300 º C, keeping it for 6 or 8 hours and then cooling it down to 81 º C in other 12 hours.

Duritec Opaque

Duritec®  Opaque is specially designed to cover sills and non-see-through areas. By applying a special kind of paint on layers of glass, it unifies the façade of a building seen in reflection by hiding areas of slab.
Most of the glazing’s in the SOLARLUX® range can be treated in this manner, but we recommend consulting with our technical department as to the viability of each case.

Duritec®-Lacotec  is the result of a process that makes Duritec® ® in beautiful colours.
The process involves enamelling one face of a piece of glass with a special enamel. The final product, Duritec® Lacotec®, is a completely opaque glass that, seen from the non-painted side looks like polished stone, because the coat of paint adheres perfectly to the glass; it can also be exposed to the sun without risk of thermal cracks.
The single purpose of the enamelled side – and it must be taken as such – is to achieve the desired colour for the Duritec Lacotec®as seen from the outside of the building or facility, meaning that the treated surface cannot be used as an interior finishing.
In all cases, between the Duritec® Lacotec®glass element and the building’s interior, there has to be a system that adequately meets the project’s insulation requirements, in addition to creating a decorative finishing, Duritec® Lacotec® can be made from several colours of paint on clear or coloured float glass, and also on impressed glass, thereby achieving a wide range of colour tones.
The silk-screening process is similar to the Duritec® Lacotec® process, except that the enamel is not applied to the whole glass surface: part of it remains transparent by using a silk screen that masks off the parts that will not be painted. Consequently, any kind of pattern can be created, and by repeating the process, the pattern can even have several colours. In silk-screening, opaque or translucent paints can be used, which makes for an endless number of possibilities.

Dual P®

Dual P® is a special variation on silk-screening characterised by its silkscreen double points or dots. The first silk-screening, which is the one seen from the exterior, can be in any colour from our range of paints. It makes the side of the building it is installed on seem translucent and yet difficult to see through to the inside. From the interior, the black tone of the second silk-screening creates an optical effect for a clear view to the exterior.

Superdual-T® must be used as a glass component of an ISOLAR® double glazing combined with SOLARLUX® on the interior. Fundamentally, this composition provides the highest solar factor and an optimum thermal transmission coefficient.

Domestics, sport street and City Forniture
The use of Duritec®  glass inside the buildings is growing day by day. A few years ago, it only was used in doors and fronts in corridors, or in windbreaks in the entrances of certain buildings, usually antique ones, with large halls. Nowadays, the Duritec®  is applied to many fields, such as in housing as in sport halls or in public premises.
The field of furnishing is developing considerably in the demands of use of Duritec®  for more security, being compulsory its installation in many countries of the EU. It started with furniture in which the streets was replaced by glass, and due to reasons of resistance and security, Duritec®  became necessary, for example in ovens, school furniture, table lids, doors in pieces of furniture, for music systems, etc.
Duritec® Bath Screens. This is an item which is having a great progress, taking the place of old plastic curtains, providing a better waterproofing, light and transparency, increasing the feeling of spaciousness.
Duritec®  can be installed either in sliding screens with PVC or aluminium holders or flag screens with one profile in only one side, which acts as a hinge.
In a sport hall or court, when one of its parts needs high resistance to knocks or bangs and at the same time it must not reduce view, the use of Duritec® is essential. In the field of sports, its more frequent uses are:
Squash, paddle an tennis courts, in table footballs, partition among stands, etc...
Duritec®  is also being used in street furniture, thanks to its transparency and better cleaning as well as its high security in case of accidents or vandalism.
It's frequently used in shelters in bus stops, railways stations, kiosks, partition and security rails, telephone boxes, holders for posters, etc.
